Health Insurance Plan

A health insurance plan works this way; the insurer (the insurance company) pays the medical expenses of the insured party if he or she becomes unwell due to any cause covered under the policy. And for this, the insured party pays a monthly premium, for the coverage to stay in effect. Health insurance plan are provided by both private insurance companies and government agencies.

Essentially, a healthinsurance plan covers everything stipulated in the contract, from basic visits to a doctor up to advanced surgical treatments like transplants. Even your medicines and prescribed drugs are pretty much covered under the offered health insurance plan by certain companies.

Types of Health Insurance Plans

There are basically two types of health insurance plan policies; the Fee-of-service Insurance or Reimbursement insurance plan and the Managed Care Insurance Plans.

The first type, the Fee-of-service works in a way where the insurer pays for a part of health care services you seek, and you pay the remaining with a monthly premium fee.

Secondly, the Managed Care insurance is the other type of health insurance plan, whereby companies sign an agreement with specific doctors in clinics and hospitals to provide health care services for their respective members who pay them through premiums. There are a lot of plans to choose from, so don't forget to consider a few important things to decide which health insurance plan will be best suited for your needs Firstly, it is important to consider the types and number of services available under a specific healthcare plan. You should know if the services offered by the insurance company are the ones you really need. Doctors come under this category, but you have to consider hospitals, health care centers and other medical providers as well. Where you are going to get the care, how far away are the hospitals, and will you be able to get a specialist without permission are some of the main questions that you will need to know the answers to. Then, try to assess the quality of a specific health insurance plans by asking people, relatives or friends who have been covered by that policy. What kind of issues did they encounter while they availed of their health insurance plan? Find the government ratings for such plans and see if they are highly rated. If you already have a trusted family doctor, ask him/her to recommend a health insurance plan. These are only some of the factors that determine the overall advantage you are going to gain under a particular health insurance plan. Each has its own advantages, so you need to study the plan carefully to decide if it is the best for you and your family.
